Legal Entity Identifier
Individual 20-digit code to identify the participants in a securities transaction.
Since January 2018, the EU Market Abuse Regulation (MAR) and the EU Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation (MiFIR) have required trading venues to transmit daily reference data for all traded securities. This includes providing the correct Legal Entity Identifier code, LEI for short, of the respective participants. For the trading of securities on Xetra and the Frankfurt floor, an LEI has since had to be available with which companies can be clearly identified on the financial market.
Our glossary explains important financial terms and should not leave any questions unanswered. However, if you are missing a definition, please write to us at redaktion@deutsche-boerse.com. We will then include the term if possible.
