Redemption
The sale of securities held in the portfolio of a mutual fund.
The so-called creation/redemption file in Deutsche Börse's XTF® segment regularly updates the lists of purchases and sales made by a mutual fund, ensuring the transparency of the fund's portfolio structure.
In securities trading, redemption describes the repayment or buyback of debentures (fixed-income securities such as bonds, Pfandbriefe or obligations) by the debitor. Debentures are redeemed in coherence with the terms of issuance applicable to the respective security.
Antonym: creation
