Sustainability at Brenntag
For many years, sustainability issues such as health, safety and environmental protection, resource efficiency, compliance as well as sustainable supply chain have been deeply embedded within Brenntag. They determine how we interact with our employees, suppliers, customers, and society in general, and have a direct influence on our commercial success.
Sustainability is a basic principle which is applied in Brenntag’s day-to-day work, and we aim to factor in the effects of our business practices on the environment and society when making strategic decisions. To this end, Brenntag has established corresponding standards and processes in its international corporate structures. We continuously encourage a sense of awareness among our employees for this issue and provide them with suitable training. Our goal is the continuous global development of our sustainability strategy.
Future Sustainable Brenntag & Brenntag’s ESG Framework
The year 2022 was of particular importance for the long-term ESG roadmap at Brenntag, highlighted by the formal rollout and implementation of the new ESG Strategy that targets towards our vision of “Future Sustainable Brenntag”. Aiming to combine responsible distribution with sustainable chemicals and ingredients, “Future Sustainable Brenntag” contributes to the undisputed and long-term success of the company and meets the increased expectations of Brenntag’s stakeholders in the area of non-financial performance.
Our ESG Strategy aims to increase our handprint (“achieving more good”) while decreasing our footprint (“doing less harm”). The focus to pave the road towards “Future Sustainable Brenntag” is set on 6 ESG focus areas. For each of the following areas, specific short-, mid- and long-term targets as well as actions have been defined:
- Climate protection and reduction of emissions
- Resource efficiency and circular economy
- Fair and safe employer
- Responsible partner for suppliers and communities
- Management structures for business ethics
- Portfolio and investment steering
An overview of the ambitious targets from these 6 areas can be found on Brenntag’s corporate website.
