CDP is a global non-profit organization that operates the world's leading environmental information disclosure system.

CDP evaluates thousands of companies that annually disclose their responses to the climate change, water security and deforestation questionnaires and assigns a letter score from A to D for each response a company submits. Non-discloser companies receive an F. CDP's rating methodology is designed to encourage companies to measure and manage environmental impacts. It assesses the level of detail and scope of a response as well as the company's awareness of environmental issues, its management methods and its progress in environmental protection. CDP's assessment focuses on principles and values for a sustainable economy and highlights the business benefits of corporate change.

Deforestation

In the area of deforestation, commodity-specific scores are assigned for timber, cattle, soy and palm oil, depending on which of these commodities a company considers essential. Each company is finally assigned a summary score between 0 and 100, which is calculated based on an average across all available individual scores.
