Certificates with sustainability focus

Certificates are financial instruments whose performance, profit and repayment depend on the performance of an underlying asset. This enables the design of theme certificates based on sustainable criteria. 

Which topics, genres and providers exist?

The range of theme-based investment certificates is growing steadily. In principle, almost any sustainable investment strategy can be represented by certificates. Key themes of sustainable certificates are, for example, renewable energies, use of resources, mobility or climate change. In most cases, however, certificates do not focus on a specific point in terms of content, but include various aspects of sustainability at company level. Certificates offer the investor only limited opportunities to actively influence companies. The largest providers in Germany are Deutsche Bank, HSBC Trinkhaus & Burkhardt, West LB, the French bank Société Genérale and the Dutch bank ABN AMRO.
